On Monday, the Delhi government signed a tripartite agreement with the Central Road Research Institute (CSIR-CRRI) and the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) to establish a standardized, science-based framework for road management. This initiative aims to address the challenges of rapid urbanization, increasing traffic, and air pollution by moving away from traditional road planning methods. The framework will include the development of a comprehensive Road Asset Management System (RAMS) to scientifically evaluate road conditions and prioritize maintenance needs. Additionally, the project will focus on enhancing environmental sustainability by creating green belts, promoting native plant species, and improving stormwater drainage systems to mitigate flooding. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized the necessity of adopting data-driven approaches to improve road safety and reduce dust pollution. Under this agreement, CSIR-CRRI will lend technical expertise in road engineering, while SPA will guide urban design and landscaping efforts.
