On Thursday, employees of the Board of School Education in Bhiwani, Haryana, protested against alleged directives to destroy records related to the 2024 Haryana Teachers’ Eligibility Test (HTET). This protest arises amid ongoing scrutiny of the HTET results, which were declared on November 10, 2023, with a troubling overall pass percentage of 14%. The Punjab and Haryana High Court has intervened, directing the board to preserve all records while the matter is under review. General Secretary of the Haryana board employees’ association, Sombir Punia, highlighted that the board has not uploaded the Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) sheets for successful candidates, a requirement that should have been met within three months of the results announcement. Allegations of irregularities have led many students to challenge the results in court. The revised results, which came 110 days after the exam, declared 1,284 candidates successful without providing their scores online, raising further concerns. Board Chairman Pawan Kumar refuted claims of record tampering, asserting that only unnecessary documents are being disposed of. Meanwhile, political figures have called for a thorough investigation into potential corruption within the board.
