In a landmark achievement for India's agricultural exports, approximately 20 metric tonnes of honey from Baksa district in Assam have been exported to the United States. This export, facilitated by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) on May 9, aligns with the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative, which promotes district-specific products to enhance local economies. The honey, sourced from eco-friendly and pesticide-free environments, reflects Assam's rich biodiversity and beekeeping traditions, particularly among indigenous tribes like the Karbi, Mishing, and Bodo. The state produced around 1,650 metric tonnes of honey during FY 2023-24, with Baksa honey being recognized for its natural purity and high nutritional value. The initiative is expected to significantly benefit local beekeepers, offering them approximately 43% higher price realization compared to local farm gate prices, thus strengthening rural livelihoods and integrating farmers into global value chains. The ceremonial flag-off was attended by key officials, including APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev.
