Sony has launched its latest flagship smartphone, the Xperia 1 VIII, emphasizing its advanced photography features. The device introduces an AI Camera Assistant that intelligently suggests camera settings based on the scene, subject, and weather conditions, enhancing user experience. The telephoto camera now boasts a 1/1.56-inch image sensor, which is about four times larger than its predecessor, allowing for detailed images even in low-light situations through advanced processing techniques like RAW multi-frame processing and HDR. The camera arrangement has shifted from a vertical island to a square layout, providing a fresh look. Additionally, the Xperia 1 VIII includes a 12-megapixel front camera for selfies and retains the increasingly rare 3.5mm audio jack for wired headphones. The smartphone features a 6.5-inch OLED display and is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform. It will be available in four colors: Graphite Black, Iolite Silver, Garnet Red, and Native Gold, with prices starting at €1,499 for the 12GB RAM/256GB storage variant and €1,999 for the 16GB RAM/1TB version. Pre-orders begin today, with shipments expected in June, although Sony has no plans to release the device in the US. Pre-order customers will receive Sony's WH-1000XM6 headphones for free.
