Mobile NHS scanning units positioned in supermarket car parks and other public areas across England have successfully detected lung cancer in over 10,000 individuals. Notably, more than 75% of these cases were identified at early stages one and two, significantly improving treatment success rates. This initiative is part of the NHS Lung Cancer Screening Programme launched in 2019, which targets regions most affected by the disease. Early detection is crucial, as patients diagnosed at these stages are 13 times more likely to survive for five years compared to those diagnosed later.
