The United States has confirmed that Steve Witkoff, the Special Envoy to the Middle East, and Jared Kushner, son-in-law of President Donald Trump, will travel to Pakistan on Saturday for a new round of talks with Iranian representatives. This follows a previous round of discussions held on April 11 and 12. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that these officials will report back to President Trump and Vice President JD Vance on the situation. Notably, both Vance and Iranian negotiating team leader Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf will not attend this round of talks. Meanwhile, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is on a regional tour that includes Pakistan, Oman, and Russia, aimed at coordinating on bilateral matters and regional developments. The ongoing negotiations are complicated by Iran's demand for the US to lift its blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, while the US seeks verifiable assurances that Iran will cease its nuclear program. US Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth emphasized that the US is not in a hurry for a deal, suggesting that Iran has an opportunity to negotiate a favorable agreement.
