On Sunday, a large-scale cleanliness drive was launched in Ayodhya at Lata Mangeshkar Chowk, led by Mayor Girish Pati Tripathi. The initiative attracted participation from citizens at over 400 locations, with Tripathi announcing that he had received 50,000 online pledges from individuals eager to contribute to the campaign. Ayodhya Municipal Commissioner Jayendra Kumar highlighted that this effort is part of the Swachh Survekshan 2025-26, a special 15-day cleanliness campaign aimed at enhancing public engagement. Swachh Survekshan, recognized as the world's largest urban cleanliness survey, has been operational for a decade and serves as a vital management tool for promoting cleanliness in cities. The latest theme, 'Swacchata Ki Nayi Pehel- Badhayein Haath, Karein Safai Saath,' emphasizes collective responsibility in maintaining clean urban environments. Over the years, Swachh Survekshan has expanded its reach significantly, increasing from 73 urban local bodies in 2016 to assessing 4,900 in 2024, thereby inspiring cities to improve sanitation standards and service delivery.
