The Lucknow Traffic Police will launch a 30-day awareness campaign starting on May 4 to promote the installation of High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) on vehicles throughout the city. The campaign aims to educate vehicle owners about the significance of HSRP, including the online application process, timelines, and legal provisions. DCP Traffic, Raveena Tyagi, highlighted that many vehicles still lack standardized number plates, which complicates identification and enforcement efforts. HSRP-equipped vehicles improve traceability, aiding in crime detection and enhancing public safety, particularly in cases involving crimes against women. While enforcement during this campaign will be minimal, Tyagi warned that legal action could still be taken if necessary. From June 1, the department will enforce strict penalties for non-compliance, with fines ranging from ₹5,000 to ₹10,000 and the authority to detain or seize non-compliant vehicles.
