The Washington Huskies suffered an 8-4 defeat against the No. 17 Oregon Ducks, marking their first loss in Big Ten play this season. The game started poorly for the Huskies as Oregon took an early 3-0 lead, thanks to a two-run home run from catcher Emma Cox and a run-scoring single by Amari Harper. However, Washington fought back in the sixth inning with a solo homer from junior third baseman Giselle Alvarez, who now shares the team lead with 15 home runs. Freshman shortstop Melody Acevedo also contributed with a double that tied the game. Unfortunately for the Huskies, the momentum shifted again in the bottom of the sixth inning when Morgan Reimer struggled, allowing five runs before being replaced. Oregon's Cox then hit a grand slam, sealing the victory for the Ducks. With this loss, Washington's record fell to 34-10 overall and 15-1 in the Big Ten. The two teams will face off again on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. PT.
