West Bengal is poised to introduce its first bullet train, significantly enhancing the state's rail infrastructure. Announced by Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw during a meeting with Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, the project is part of a broader ₹1 lakh crore initiative aimed at modernizing rail connectivity across the state. This high-speed train will drastically cut travel time between Delhi and Siliguri from approximately 20 hours to just 6 hours, with stops in Lucknow, Varanasi, and Patna. Additionally, a dedicated line will connect Varanasi to Siliguri, eventually reaching Guwahati in Assam. CM Adhikari described the meeting as a historic moment for West Bengal, highlighting the government's commitment to a proactive approach in land acquisition to resolve long-standing delays in project execution. He instructed district magistrates to establish a timeline for land handovers, ensuring cooperation to expedite the completion of these vital railway projects. This ambitious plan aims to connect every district in Bengal to the railway network, marking a significant step toward improving transportation infrastructure in the region.
