The Madras High Court is scheduled to hold a special sitting on Sunday to address a plea from KR Periyakaruppan, a leader of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party and former Tamil Nadu minister. Periyakaruppan lost the Tirupattur assembly seat in Sivaganga district, Tamil Nadu, to Seenivasa Sethupathy of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) by a mere one vote—83,375 to 83,374, according to Election Commission data. In his writ petition, Periyakaruppan contends that the votes in his constituency were not properly recounted and is seeking to prevent Sethupathy from participating in an upcoming trust vote scheduled to occur on or before May 13. The case will be heard by a bench comprising Justices L Victoria Gowri and N Senthilkumar.
