A new five-storey building is set to provide affordable housing units in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, just under one kilometre from Acadia University. The initiative, led by Student Housing Nova Scotia, has secured $8.6 million in loans from the provincial government to support the project. The building, located on Pleasant Street, aims to offer affordable housing options for both students and the wider community. In addition to the loans, the project has received $521,600 from the Community Housing Capital Fund and $25,000 from the Community Housing Growth Fund. Julie Vanexan, the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Kings South, highlighted the significance of affordable housing as a means to provide stability for individuals and families. The housing units will include a variety of options, from studios to three-bedroom apartments, with many priced below the average market rate. While students will be prioritized for these units, enrollment in a post-secondary institution is not a requirement. Importantly, current residents of the building will not face displacement as the transition occurs.
