West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced the commencement of enrollment for the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) during a press conference following a virtual meeting with Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda. The scheme, which provides financial protection for secondary and tertiary healthcare to economically vulnerable families, is set to begin offering benefits to enrolled individuals starting in July. Adhikari highlighted the previous government's lack of cooperation with the central government, particularly regarding health data during dengue outbreaks in 2015, 2016, and 2017. In addition to healthcare initiatives, the Chief Minister stated that the state government is prepared to allocate 27 kilometers of land for fencing along the Indo-Bangladesh border, as well as for Border Outposts (BOPs) and Border Security Force (BSF) infrastructure development. He accused the former Trinamool Congress government of delaying these allocations, which he claims negatively impacted national security and efforts to prevent illegal infiltration.
