Akhilesh Yadav, the chief of the Samajwadi Party and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, expressed deep sorrow over the passing of his half-brother, Prateek Yadav, who died at the age of 38. Prateek was brought to Lucknow's Civil Hospital in an unresponsive state and was declared dead upon arrival at 5:55 AM on May 13, 2026. He was the husband of Aparna Yadav, a leader in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Following his death, his body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, which will be conducted by a panel of three to four doctors and will be video recorded. The Chief Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr. Devesh Chandra Pandey, confirmed the details surrounding the incident and stated that the police were notified after Prateek's death.
