Chandigarh, India, is preparing to launch its first dedicated dog ambulance, a significant step for animal welfare in the city. The inauguration, led by Member of Parliament Manish Tewari, is scheduled for Sunday in front of the Medical Officer of Health building in Sector 17 B. Funded under the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS), the ambulance was acquired for ₹16 lakh (approximately $19,200 USD), slightly below the sanctioned amount of ₹18 lakh. The vehicle will be handed over to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), which plays a crucial role in rescuing and rehabilitating injured and abandoned animals. Designed with three separate cages, the ambulance allows for the safe transport of multiple injured dogs, reducing stress and preventing further harm during transit. This addition is expected to significantly improve response times for animal rescue calls, particularly in emergencies involving road accidents and critical injuries. Mayor Saurabh Joshi and municipal commissioner Amit Kumar will also attend the ceremony, highlighting the initiative's importance in enhancing Chandigarh's animal welfare infrastructure.
