The slight deficit of approximately $2.4 million will be covered by the general fund, primarily due to one-time equipment costs associated with the Cadence Sports Park project. City Assistant Finance Director David Weiser highlighted ongoing challenges, including stagnant sales tax revenue and a declining housing market, which impact the budget. Public safety remains a priority, with nearly 60% of expenditures, or about $253 million, allocated to this sector. The budget also includes provisions for hiring 14 new patrol officers and expanding the Police Cadet Program. Additionally, funding for the Crisis Response Team, which deploys mental health professionals during emergencies, has been made permanent, reflecting the city's commitment to addressing public safety and mental health needs.
