Shiv Sena (UBT), a political party in India, has expressed strong opposition to the proposed renaming of the historic King Edward Memorial (KEM) Hospital in Mumbai to Kaushalya Eklavya Memorial Hospital. A delegation led by MLA Ajay Choudhary and former mayor Kishori Pednekar submitted a memorandum to the hospital dean, emphasizing the institution's legacy that spans over 100 years. The proposal, initiated by Maharashtra minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha, was approved by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) health committee last week and is set to be discussed in an upcoming general body meeting. Choudhary highlighted King Edward's contribution of ₹7 lakh (approximately $8,500 USD) in establishing the hospital, questioning the necessity of the name change. Pednekar warned that such a move could lead to law and order issues in Mumbai. Additionally, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut criticized the proposal and suggested that minister Lodha should consider naming the Trump Tower he built after Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj instead.
