The provincial government of Mountain Province, Philippines, has successfully surpassed the national energy reduction target by cutting electricity consumption by 11.05% in March and 34.56% in April 2026. Energy Conservation Officer-Designate Gary Pekas reported a decrease of 4,443 kilowatt-hours in March compared to the previous year, and an even larger reduction of 18,991 kilowatt-hours in April. These savings were achieved through the implementation of Memorandum No. 17, issued by Governor Bonifacio C. Lacwasan Jr., which enforced strict energy conservation measures across provincial offices. Key strategies included regulated air-conditioning use, scheduled lunch hour blackouts, and maximizing natural lighting. Additionally, measures to conserve fuel were also introduced, such as discouraging single-passenger trips and promoting carpooling. Pekas expressed gratitude to provincial employees for their cooperation, emphasizing that adherence to the guidelines was crucial for achieving significant energy savings.
