A recent meeting convened by Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya focused on India's preparations for the Commonwealth Games while also discussing the country's bid for the 2036 Olympics. The meeting included Gujarat's Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi and senior officials from the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). While the primary agenda was the 2026 Commonwealth Games closing ceremony and the transition to Ahmedabad for the 2030 edition, the Olympic bid was also addressed. An IOA source indicated that no major decisions were made, but there was a conversation about advancing the bid process once it resumes. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) had previously paused the host selection process to reassess its criteria, but this is expected to gain momentum by the end of the year. India had reached the 'Continuous Dialogue' stage of the bidding process after submitting an 'Expression of Interest' in October 2024. Additionally, the meeting reviewed logistical preparations for the upcoming Commonwealth Games, emphasizing the importance of coordination among various ministries to ensure smooth operations for athletes. An 'India House' is planned to support athletes during the Glasgow Games.
