A special Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) court in Bhuj, Gujarat, has sentenced six Pakistani nationals to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment each for smuggling approximately 77 kg of heroin into Indian waters in December 2021. The convicts, all residents of Karachi, Pakistan, were identified as Mohammad Imran Mohammad Tariq Vagher, Danis Mohammad Husen Kutchi Vagher, Sagar Mohammad Kutchi Vagher, Ismail Ibrahim Barala, Mohammad Sajid Mohammad Husen Yakublala Kungra, and Ashfaq Mohammad Ishaq Vagher. The court also imposed a fine of ₹2 lakh (approximately $2,400 USD) on each convict. During the trial, the prosecution presented 203 documentary evidences and examined 13 witnesses. The court noted that the accused were part of a planned operation that poses a significant threat to the nation’s internal security. The case stemmed from an operation in December 2021, when a Pakistani boat named 'Al Husseini' was intercepted off the Jakhau coast in Kutch following intelligence inputs, leading to the seizure of the narcotics.
