Google has officially begun construction on a $15 billion artificial intelligence (AI) data center hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India. This project is one of the largest foreign direct investments in India's digital infrastructure and aims to establish the region as a pivotal node in the global AI ecosystem. The hub, developed in collaboration with the Adani Group and Bharti Airtel, will feature 1 gigawatt of data center capacity, subsea cable connectivity, and clean energy infrastructure. Google CEO Sundar Pichai highlighted the initiative's importance for job creation and local ecosystem development. During the groundbreaking event, Indian IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw urged the tech industry to localize server manufacturing and improve sustainability practices, emphasizing the need for joint research to enhance power efficiency and reduce water consumption in data centers. This project reflects a significant step toward bolstering India's position in the global digital landscape.
