A 10-year-old tiger named Pujari was found dead on Monday in the Khitauli range of Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve in Umaria district, Madhya Pradesh. Initial investigations indicate that Pujari's death was likely caused by a territorial clash with another tiger in the Dhamdhama area. Pujari was a favorite among tourists due to his unique behavior of taking dips in waterholes before exploring the forest. Field director Anupam Sahay reported that staff heard fighting between two tigers on Sunday night, prompting a search operation that led to the discovery of Pujari's carcass the following morning. Although the body showed signs of an attack, all parts were intact, and the exact cause of death will be determined after a post-mortem examination. This incident underscores the challenges faced by the growing tiger population in Bandhavgarh, which is known for its high density of tigers. To mitigate territorial conflicts, forest authorities are redeveloping corridors to connect Bandhavgarh with nearby reserves, including Sanjay and Guru Ghasidas–Tamor Pingla.
