In Karnataka, complaints related to banking and insurance have significantly increased during the fiscal year 2025-26, according to the Karnataka State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (KSCDRC). Banking complaints rose from 35,954 to 37,897, while insurance complaints increased from 74,364 to 77,397. Belagavi topped the banking complaints with 13,240 cases filed, followed by Mysuru and Dharwad. In insurance, Haveri led with 5,330 cases filed. Consumers have expressed frustration over claim rejections and inadequate explanations of policy terms, with many experiencing financial burdens despite years of premium payments. Activists like YG Muralidharan from the Consumer Rights Education and Awareness Trust (CREAT) highlight the need for improved consumer education regarding policy exclusions and conditions. KSCDRC chairman Shivashankare Gowda noted that many disputes arise from technical grounds and urged consumers to thoroughly understand their policies. Despite staffing shortages in district consumer commissions, Karnataka has maintained a high case disposal rate, resolving over 97% of cases since their establishment.
