The executive committee of the Varanasi Nagar Nigam (VNN) has given conditional approval to allocate two acres of land at Samne Ghat for the construction of a cruise terminal by the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI). This initiative is part of a broader effort to transform Varanasi, located in Uttar Pradesh, India, into a global tourist destination. The terminal is expected to alleviate congestion at the main ghats, where most boat operations currently occur, and enhance Ganges-based tourism. Additionally, the project will create new economic opportunities for local artisans and small-scale traders. The VNN is also surveying local slum areas to improve basic amenities and has approved various infrastructure projects, including the construction of drainage channels and public facilities, at an estimated cost of ₹98.59 lakh. These developments are aimed at strengthening urban infrastructure and expanding public amenities in Varanasi.
