His journey began with the 2007 Nandigram protests, where he became a prominent voice against the Left Front government's land acquisition policies. This movement not only weakened the Left's influence but also bolstered the rise of Mamata Banerjee and the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC). Adhikari's political career flourished as he became a significant organizer for the Trinamool Congress in southern Bengal, winning a Lok Sabha seat from Tamluk in 2009 and later serving as Transport Minister after the 2016 Assembly elections.
