The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) is set to open a 50-bed shelter home for transgender individuals at the Birsa Munda Bus Terminal in Khadgarha, Jharkhand, India. This initiative is part of RMC's commitment to enhance inclusivity and provide dedicated facilities for women and transgender people, focusing on privacy, safety, and improved sanitation. RMC administrator Sushant Gaurav emphasized the importance of expanding coverage for vulnerable groups. Under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM), the RMC plans to build two additional shelter homes—one for women and another for men, each with a capacity of 50 beds. The project will also involve upgrading existing shelters at Dhurwa and ITI bus stands, increasing their capacity from 16 and 14 beds to 50 beds each. The total investment for these projects is approximately ₹1.25 crore (roughly $150,000 USD) each. Security measures, including CCTV cameras and inverters, will be implemented to ensure the safety and comfort of residents.
