Rickey Radhan Pandit Vettrivel, a prominent astrologer and spiritual advisor, has been appointed as Officer on Special Duty (Political) to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay. This decision follows the recent electoral success of Vijay's party, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, where they emerged as the largest party, winning 108 seats. Vettrivel is credited with advising Vijay throughout his political journey, including suggesting the auspicious timing for his swearing-in ceremony. With nearly four decades of experience in astrology, Vettrivel has had significant influence in Tamil Nadu's political landscape, having advised several prominent leaders, including the late former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. His appointment reflects the close relationship between astrology and politics in the region, as well as the growing prominence of the TVK party, which ended the long-standing dominance of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK).
