The All India Football Federation (AIFF) is set to investigate allegations of financial and compliance irregularities involving Diamond Harbour Football Club (DHFC), owned by Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee. AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey stated that the West Bengal Sports Minister, Nisith Pramanik, had raised concerns regarding the club's failure to meet several compliance requirements. Diamond Harbour FC, which was launched in 2022 and recently promoted to the Indian Super League after winning the Indian Football League, is under scrutiny for its financial practices. Chaubey emphasized the need for improved cooperation between the Central and West Bengal governments to enhance the sports ecosystem in the state. He noted that past tensions had hindered sports development, as evidenced by the absence of 'Khelo India' events in West Bengal over the last 15 years. During a cycling rally in Kolkata to celebrate World Bicycle Day, Chaubey and Pramanik both underscored the importance of sports for youth development and the ongoing transformation of the state's sporting landscape, which aims to foster a healthier and more active population.
