With just two days before the second phase of the Assembly elections in West Bengal, the Calcutta High Court has intervened in a complaint filed by the Trinamool Congress (TMC). The TMC alleges that a police observer in South 24 Parganas district met with a candidate from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which they claim violates electoral norms. They have requested the removal of this observer from their duties in four specific assembly constituencies: Magrahat Purba, Magrahat Paschim, Diamond Harbour, and Falta. In response, the Election Commission of India clarified that the meeting took place in an official capacity within a designated conference room at a state-owned tourist lodge in Diamond Harbour, asserting that the meeting was not confidential as alleged. Justice Krishna Rao, after reviewing the case last week, has urged the Election Commission to resolve the TMC's complaint and communicate the outcome to the petitioner.
