The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party has launched a scathing critique of Tamil Nadu's new Chief Minister Vijay, following a controversy regarding the order of songs played at his oath-taking ceremony in Chennai. In an editorial published in the DMK mouthpiece 'Murasoli', the party expressed outrage over 'Vande Mataram' being played before the national anthem 'Jana Gana Mana' and the Tamil state song 'Thamizhthai Vaazhthu'. The DMK accused Vijay of 'smearing the face of Mother Tamil with soot' and failing to secure a majority without the support of DMK-allied parties, including the Communist Party of India and the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi. The editorial emphasized that Tamil Nadu law mandates the Tamil anthem be sung first at government functions, criticizing Vijay for allegedly complying with the Governor's agenda. This incident has reignited tensions reminiscent of past conflicts between the DMK and Governor RN Ravi, who had previously insisted on the national anthem's precedence. In response, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) assured that the Tamil anthem would be prioritized in future events, despite citing a federal circular that led to the current order of songs.
