A significant political reconciliation has occurred within the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) as rebel MLAs, who had recently aligned with Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), have reunited with party general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami. This development follows a period of turmoil where rebel MLAs, including SP Velumani and C Ve Shanmugam, publicly supported Vijay's political ambitions and resigned from the Assembly to join TVK. The defection of these MLAs sparked fears of fragmentation within AIADMK, prompting accusations from the party that TVK is engaging in 'horse-trading' to strengthen its position in the Assembly. AIADMK's party whip, Agri SS Krishnamurthy, has contested the legitimacy of these resignations, citing a pending petition against 25 rebel MLAs under the anti-defection law.
