The Reliance Foundation's Rural Transformation Programme has significantly improved rural well-being in Balangir (Odisha), Mandla (Madhya Pradesh), Adoni (Andhra Pradesh), and Radhanpur (Gujarat) over the past decade, focusing on water security, sustainable agriculture, and nutrition, according to an Observer Research Foundation report.
- 01The program, launched in 2010-11, has expanded to cover around 3,000 villages across 26 clusters in 11 states as of 2019.
- 02Households classified as 'out of poverty' increased significantly in Balangir (from 64.7% to 84.8%) and Mandla (from 7.4% to 60.6%) between 2014 and 2023.
- 03Water security improvements included the creation of over 48 lakh cubic metres of water-harvesting capacity in Balangir, raising groundwater levels and expanding irrigation.
- 04Women's self-help groups have contributed to enhanced savings, access to credit, and livelihood diversification in the communities.
- 05Despite progress, vulnerabilities remain among the poorest households, particularly landless and migration-dependent families.

The Reliance Foundation's Rural Transformation Programme has made notable strides in enhancing rural well-being across four Indian states: Balangir in Odisha, Mandla in Madhya Pradesh, Adoni in Andhra Pradesh, and Radhanpur in Gujarat. Launched in 2010-11, the program initially focused on 560 villages and has since expanded to approximately 3,000 villages, emphasizing water security, sustainable agriculture, and nutrition. A recent report by the Observer Research Foundation highlights significant improvements, including a rise in households classified as 'out of poverty' in Balangir and Mandla. However, Radhanpur exhibited mixed results, with some households slipping back into poverty. The program has also bolstered community institutions, particularly women's self-help groups, which have improved financial stability and access to resources. Despite these advancements, challenges persist for the most vulnerable populations, necessitating continued focus on equity and community engagement as India progresses towards rural development.
