In the second phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections on April 29, 2026, voting was disrupted at a polling booth in Panihati, West Bengal, due to an ink blot on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) symbol button on the electronic voting machine. Party workers and voters raised objections, leading to a delay of nearly an hour before the ink was removed with sanitiser and voting resumed. The BJP has alleged that similar irregularities occurred in the Falta seat of Diamond Harbour, claiming that the option to vote for their symbol was blocked with tape at several booths. They have demanded an immediate repoll in these areas, citing past tactics used by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) to influence elections. Tensions further escalated in Panihati when BJP candidate Ratna Debnath faced protests during her visit to assess polling. She reported being attacked by alleged TMC supporters while trying to assist an elderly voter. The second phase of polling is taking place across 142 constituencies, including significant districts like Kolkata and Howrah, which are traditionally TMC strongholds.
