The Northern Railways has launched a pilot access control system at New Delhi Railway Station, specifically at Gate 9 on the Ajmeri Gate side, to enhance crowd management. This initiative involves the installation of turnstiles that allow entry but not exit, helping to regulate passenger flow. Separate entry points for reserved and unreserved passengers are being established, along with one-side exit turnstiles. The project aims to improve ticket checking and queue management with the support of the Commercial and Railway Protection Force (RPF) staff. New signage is also being introduced for passenger convenience. The long-term vision includes integrating QR codes for entry and deploying AI-based cameras to enhance safety. This decision was made during a Ministry of Railways meeting in March, chaired by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The station typically accommodates between 400,000 to 500,000 passengers daily, peaking at 700,000 during festive seasons. To better handle the influx, a permanent holding area named Yatri Suvidha Kendra was opened last October, providing facilities for over 7,000 passengers.
