The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), a significant partner in the United Democratic Front (UDF), is growing increasingly restless over the Congress party's delay in finalizing the Chief Minister for Kerala following the April 2026 Assembly elections. Despite maintaining a cautious stance publicly, IUML leaders are expressing discontent over the perceived casual attitude of some Congress figures, particularly Mathew Kuzhalnadan and M.M. Hassan. A leadership meeting is set to take place at the residence of IUML State president Syed Sadikali Shihab Thangal, where strong sentiments are anticipated unless the Congress resolves the uncertainty surrounding the Chief Minister selection. Former IUML State general secretary K.P.A. Majeed stated that the delay has diminished the excitement of their victory. Leaders like P. Abdul Hameed and Abdurahman Randathani have echoed concerns about public disappointment, while T.V. Ibrahim, an MLA-elect, labeled the delay as unacceptable. The IUML believes its substantial contributions to the UDF's success, including sweeping all 16 seats in Malappuram district, are being overlooked, and they fear complacency among Congress leaders following their own electoral gains.
