Following a Supreme Court ruling on May 4, 2026, that mandated the conservation of Mysuru’s Devaraja Market and Lansdowne Building, Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, the MP for Mysuru, visited the century-old market to engage with local traders. The court's decision was influenced by a technical assessment from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee, which concluded that approximately 70% of the structures could be repaired while maintaining their foundations. Local traders had expressed strong opposition to plans for demolition, emphasizing the market's historical and architectural importance. Wadiyar described the ruling as a landmark decision and has called on the Karnataka state government to promptly release the necessary funds for the restoration, in accordance with recommendations from expert committees, including those from IIT Roorkee and the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH). He has also urged the Mysuru City Corporation and the Mysuru Development Authority to commence restoration efforts as soon as possible.
