The Mumbai state dairy development department is reviving milk production under the Aarey brand, with 50,000 litres initially to be produced by the Mahananda milk cooperative. This milk will be distributed through 1,800 Aarey stalls across the city. The department aims to reintroduce flavored milk under the Energee brand in the future. Historically, Aarey Colony was a dominant player in the milk distribution sector until the rise of cooperatives led to the decline of government dairies. The Worli dairy plot, which is currently in disrepair, will undergo development to create an iconic project that is expected to generate revenue and jobs. The dairy development department, which has seen a drastic reduction in staff from 15,000 to 950, will also see employees reassigned to the animal husbandry department as per a government resolution dated October 10, 2024.
