During the 17th convocation of Karnataka State Akkamahadevi Women's University (KSAWU) in Vijayapura, Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot emphasized the transformative power of education for women. He stated that education fosters independence, self-reliance, and confidence, echoing the ideals of Akkamahadevi, a historical figure in women's empowerment. Gehlot remarked that a degree symbolizes discipline and hard work, and in today's era of science and technology, knowledge should be applied for societal welfare. He noted that educated women not only uplift themselves but also contribute significantly to their communities. Prof Ujjwala Chakradev, vice-chancellor of SNDT Women's University in Mumbai, added that degrees alone do not secure future success; skills and adaptability are equally important. She stressed that as India progresses towards the vision of Developed India 2047, the role of educated women in nation-building becomes increasingly vital. The event also recognized several individuals with honorary doctorates, highlighting the commitment to empowering women through education.
