The Federation Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) has suspended the Volleyball Federation of India (VFI) due to significant breaches in governance standards. This decision follows a revolt from senior players Anand K and John Joseph, who left the national camp in Ahmedabad, citing inadequate facilities, incompetent coaching, and political interference in team selection. The FIVB stated that the interim leadership of the VFI failed to adhere to legal and administrative requirements, leading to the immediate revocation of its provisional recognition. In response to the crisis, a Steering Committee, composed of members from the Indian Olympic Association and the FIVB, has been established to stabilize Indian volleyball and ensure athlete welfare. This committee will oversee the formation of an Athletes’ Commission, conduct state association elections, implement constitutional reforms, and ensure transparent team selection. Despite the turmoil, the FIVB has committed ₹2.1 crore (approximately $252,000 USD) through its Volleyball Empowerment Programme for high-performance development. As India prepares to host the AVC Men’s Cup from June 20–28, uncertainty looms over the national team's preparations.
