The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has called for further simplification of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime, despite a notable increase in tax collections from approximately ₹40,000 crore to over ₹2 lakh crore monthly since its implementation in 2017. During an event in Bhubaneswar, CAIT leaders expressed that while the GST has become a significant revenue source for the government, traders continue to face substantial compliance challenges that hinder their operations. CAIT National Chairman Brij Mohan Agrawal pointed out that although the government has made efforts to simplify the tax system, the practical implementation remains problematic. He stressed that more simplification is essential for fostering a conducive business environment. Additionally, CAIT Odisha State President Jitendra Kumar Gupta highlighted that simplifying tax procedures could further encourage businesses to formalize, thereby benefiting both the government and traders. He argued that reducing paperwork and compliance requirements would stimulate economic activity and improve the overall trade landscape.
