The Tripura government has officially adopted a five-day work week for state offices, designating Saturdays and Sundays as holidays. This significant change was announced during a special ministers' meeting led by Chief Minister Manik Saha and is effective immediately. The new office hours will run from 9:30 AM to 6 PM, Monday to Friday, replacing the previous schedule of 10 AM to 5:30 PM from Monday to Saturday, with some Saturdays previously being exceptions. The government aims to address rising global crude oil prices and economic pressures by reducing fuel consumption and lowering electricity costs. In addition to the work week shift, the cabinet has approved further cost-saving measures, including conducting 75% of official meetings virtually and limiting large gatherings for political parties and government events. To promote sustainability, the government is encouraging the use of electric vehicles and the establishment of charging stations. Residents are urged to minimize vehicle use, cycle or walk for short distances, and opt for public transport for longer journeys as part of a broader fuel conservation strategy.
