A recent study conducted by Comparitech in 2025 highlighted alarming trends in password usage among internet users. Despite ongoing advice to create strong passwords, many individuals continue to use easily guessable options such as '123456', which was found to be the most common password, utilized by over 76 lakh people. Following closely was 'admin', employed by more than 19 lakh users. The study examined over 2 billion accounts compromised in data breaches, revealing that common passwords like 'password' and '12345678' remain prevalent. The report emphasizes that human laziness contributes to this issue, making password guessing alarmingly simple. To enhance online security, experts recommend that passwords should be at least 12 characters long, incorporating a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special symbols. Additionally, users should avoid using easily guessable personal information, such as names of family members or popular fictional characters, to protect their accounts from hacking.
