VP Jayakumar of the Hindu Munnani has called for the reopening of the lower Rajagopuram entrance at the Subramania Swamy Temple in Tiruchendur, which has been closed for several years. He argued that reopening the entrance would facilitate easier access for devotees wishing to have darshan of Lord Murugan. Jayakumar urged HR&CE Minister S Ramesh to reconsider the closure, which he attributes to Agama regulations, and take action to improve facilities for devotees. Minister Ramesh had previously conducted a surprise inspection of the temple, alleging irregularities, including demands for bribes of ₹4,000 for expedited darshan. Following this, a priest and two guards were suspended. Jayakumar also highlighted the need for temple accommodations to be used for devotees only and called for an inquiry into complaints of misuse. He expressed confidence that the Chief Minister would address these issues and emphasized the importance of equitable worship opportunities for all communities at the temple.
