The India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) is set to invest ₹2 crore in a project aimed at addressing persistent waterlogging issues around Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, India. The initiative involves constructing an underground sump reservoir and a high-pressure pumping system to channel excess rainwater from Gate No. 3 to a nearby municipal drain. Approximately 1,000 cubic metres of earth will be excavated to create a waterproof reservoir equipped with five high-capacity submersible pumps. These pumps will continuously drain excess water, although the project is expected to take around three months and may not be completed before the upcoming monsoon season. The area has faced significant waterlogging, particularly during heavy rainfall, affecting the Pragati Maidan tunnel, which has experienced leakage issues since its opening. The Public Works Department (PWD) has also announced plans for new drains and channels to enhance stormwater management in the vicinity, following previous waterlogging incidents during events like the G20 Summit in 2023.
