Matheesha Pathirana, the Sri Lankan pacer, has arrived in Kolkata to bolster the struggling Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The franchise confirmed his arrival on Sunday after he recovered from a calf strain sustained during the T20 World Cup. Pathirana cleared a mandatory fitness test by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and received a no-objection certificate before linking up with the KKR squad ahead of their match against Rajasthan Royals. Despite his arrival, he is not expected to be included in the playing XI immediately as the team's medical staff will assess his match fitness over the next few training sessions. Pathirana was acquired by KKR for ₹18 crore (approximately $2.2 million USD) during the last IPL auction and was anticipated to miss the initial matches due to his injury. KKR is currently seeking their first victory of the season, having lost all six matches thus far and sitting at the bottom of the IPL points table.
