Bangladesh and Turkiye have agreed to establish annual 2+2 consultations involving their foreign and defence ministers to enhance defence cooperation. This decision was made during a meeting between Turkiye's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Bangladesh's Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, marking the conclusion of Fidan's three-day visit to Bangladesh. The meeting aimed to elevate Bangladesh-Turkiye relations to a strategic level, with discussions covering a range of issues including the Rohingya crisis, climate change, and trade. Both nations also agreed to set up a consultation mechanism under their foreign ministers to strengthen political, economic, and strategic ties. Fidan expressed Turkiye's interest in expanding defence industry collaboration, highlighting the potential for joint production initiatives. Prime Minister Rahman extended an invitation for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to visit Bangladesh at a mutually convenient time, further solidifying the growing partnership between the two countries.
