On Sunday, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it had shot down a US MQ-1 drone that allegedly entered Iranian territorial waters for hostile purposes. The IRGC claimed that the drone was detected and targeted by its air defense systems. This incident follows the IRGC's earlier assertion that it had downed a US MQ-9 drone and fired upon a fighter jet intruding into Iranian airspace. In response to perceived threats, the US military conducted self-defence strikes against missile launch sites and mine-laying boats in southern Iran. Tim Hawkins, a spokesperson for US Central Command (CENTCOM), stated that these strikes were necessary to protect US troops and asserted that the US-Iran ceasefire remains intact. Concurrently, three explosions were reported near the Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas, adding to the growing tensions in the region. The ongoing conflict is largely attributed to concerns over Iran's nuclear ambitions, which the US views as a significant threat.
