To Lam, the General Secretary and President of Vietnam, arrived in New Delhi on May 5, 2026, for his first state visit to India. He was warmly welcomed by Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai and Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary in Gaya, where he began his three-day visit. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and Vietnam, established during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Vietnam in 2016. During his stay, To Lam will receive a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhawan on May 6 and engage in high-level talks with Prime Minister Modi to discuss bilateral relations and regional issues. The Ministry of External Affairs emphasized that the visit will provide fresh momentum to the robust bilateral relations and open new avenues for cooperation. The trip is significant as it follows Modi's congratulatory message to To Lam on his election as President earlier this month, expressing a commitment to deepen ties between the two nations.
