On Tuesday, Israel launched an airstrike in Gaza City aimed at Mohammed Odeh, the newly appointed military chief of Hamas, who is believed to have been killed in the attack. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Israel Katz confirmed that the operation specifically targeted Odeh, who had only taken on the role 11 days earlier after the death of his predecessor, Izz al-Din al-Haddad, in a previous strike. Reports indicate that this operation represents a significant intelligence success for Israel. However, the broader strategic implications of the strike remain uncertain amid ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. The airstrikes resulted in at least three deaths and 12 injuries, coinciding with the eve of Eid al-Adha, highlighting the fragile state of the ceasefire established last October. Since then, over 880 Palestinians have reportedly been killed in Israeli operations, while four Israeli soldiers have also lost their lives during the same period.
