Hyderabad is rapidly establishing itself as a significant hub for data centres and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, with projected investments of $10-20 billion by 2030. Nikhil Chakravarthi J, Commissioner/Director of Industries for the Government of Telangana, reported that the state is targeting nearly five gigawatts of data centre capacity, attracting interest from global technology firms like Tata, Adani, Amazon, and Microsoft. The Telangana government is offering various incentives, including land and quality power supply, to facilitate these investments. Industry leaders at the ASSOCHAM's Smart Datacenters & Cloud Infrastructure Conclave emphasized the importance of data centres as critical infrastructure for AI adoption and digital transactions. The growth in this sector is expected to create numerous jobs in engineering, construction, and cybersecurity. However, challenges such as high power consumption and the need for sustainable energy solutions remain a concern. Companies are exploring options like green hydrogen to mitigate environmental impacts.
